King Charles III has made history as the first reigning king of Australia to visit the country. He and Queen Camilla arrived at Sydney Airport around 8:30 p.m., marking their first royal tour to Australia since 2018. They were greeted by Governor-General Sam Mostyn, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and NSW Premier Chris Minns.
Despite a heavy shower before their arrival, excitement remained high for the historic visit. Queen Camilla was presented with a posy by 12-year-old Ky, who met the royals through the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Scheduled events for their Australian tour
During their five-day tour, Charles, who has a passion for the environment, will visit the National Botanic Gardens and meet with scientists at CSIRO to discuss bushfire impacts and resilience. He will also engage with Australians of the Year to learn about cancer research and meet Indigenous representatives to explore First Nations culture.
The Queen will focus on family advocacy, meeting with domestic violence advocates and GIVIT representatives. This visit marks the first by a reigning monarch since 2011 and will include official engagements in Sydney and Canberra before heading to Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
